This year, I'm very excited to be taking part in the Hire an Illustrator's Amazing Adventures: An Exhibition of Art Inspired by the Works of Jules Verne. The show will feature over 100 original works from talented illustrators from the UK and around the globe.
The exhibition will be held at The Framers Gallery in London from 9th-12th April 2019.
- 9th Tuesday 10 am – 5:30 pm
- 10th Wednesday 10 am – 5:30 pm
- 11th Thursday 6 pm – 8:30 pm
- 12th Friday 10 am – 5:30 pm
I plan to attend the event for the show Thursday evening and looking forward to viewing all the work and meeting the other artists.
A good place to view some of the work which will be on display is by following #julesverneexpo on instagram.
I started by creating a quick mock-up in Affinity Designer on the iPad of the basic layout and type. Rough sketching was then completed in ProCreate over the mock-up using the colours blue and red and some layer masking to help separate the objects.
I then printed out a faded image of the work onto A3 Bristol Board and inked freehand. I now prefer to ink by hand because I find that when working digitally I can't help but to zoom in and work on details which will never be seen once printed out at 100%. Plus you always get the little happy mistakes etc, which makes the work look more authentic as the undo tool is not so quickly available.
Once inking was complete I scanned the work in at 600 dpi and coloured using Photoshop on the Wacom Cintiq Pro 13.
I'm really pleased with the finished image. If you manage to visit the exhibition and are around Thursday evening (11 April), please say hello.
